Welcome to the free tax preparation program provided by AARP Volunteers. The process has changed significantly due to COVID-19 and seeks to minimize personal contact. This year due to Covid-19 precautions, Intake and Returns will all be done at the

Below are the steps you need to take to get your tax return prepared.

1. APPOINTMENT SET-UP

  • At this time, you can sign up for an appointment to have AARP volunteers do your 2022 taxes.. To get on our contact list please visit or call the Library at (406)-563-6932 and provide your name, telephone number and your desired time slot. Drop-off and pick-up times will be on Mondays between 10 am and 4 pm. You will be required to complete Forms 13614-C and x14446 before AARP can begin preparing your taxes.

2. FORMs REQUIRED & Helpful

A. If you have Internet access - Please print the following forms and complete them -

· B. If you do not have Internet Access the above forms will be provided at your scheduled appointment and completed at that time. Please allow extra time to complete the forms.

2. APPOINTMENT DAY

  • Wearing a mask is REQUIRED to enter the Hearst Free Library Please arrive at the time of your appointment as there is NO waiting inside.

  • Bring your own pen

  • Bring a picture ID



  • A. Form 13614-C completed - Clip all your documents (including ID) on the clipboard. The volunteer will check your documents and answer any questions you may have.

  • B. Form 13614-C NOT completed - A volunteer will provide you a sanitized clipboard with form 13614-C and 14446 that are required to be filled out. Clip all your documents (including ID) on the clipboard. A volunteer will check the documents and answer any questions you may have.

  • C. Sign Form 14446 signifying the taxpayer (or taxpayers, if MFJ) understands the return preparation process.


The Tax Aide will fill in the Document Inventory checklist signed by the taxpayer.

3. REMOTE TAX PREPARATION

  • While your tax return is being prepared remotely by a local volunteer, you may be called with questions by two different volunteers- a Preparer and a Reviewer. If you do not answer, a contact number will be left in your voicemail. Please have your last year’s tax return available.

4. SECOND APPOINTMENT: REVIEW & AUTHORIZATION

  • You will be called to schedule a 2nd appointment for the following Monday to pick up your completed Tax Return and the authorization form

  • Wearing a mask is REQUIRED to enter the B Hearst Free Library. Please arrive at the time of your appointment as there is NO waiting inside.

  • Bring your own pen

  • Bring a picture ID

  • A counselor will review the return with the taxpayer(s) and make any required revisions. .

  • A volunteer reviewer will provide you with Form 8879 (IRS e-file Signature Authorization). By signing Form 8879 you agree that the responsibility for the accuracy of the information on the return is yours. Both you and your spouse (if applicable), will be required to sign, giving AARP permission to E-file your return.

  • You will receive the printed copy of your Tax Return and you are free to leave the site.

  • Be sure to keep your Tax Return, Intake Booklet and tax Documents inside the AARP provided envelope and store in a safe place for next year.
