Welcome to the free tax preparation program provided by AARP Volunteers. Intake and Returns will all be done at the:


Rocky Mountain Development (Helena Senior Center)

200 S. Cruse Ave, Helena, MT


Below are the steps you need to take to get your tax return prepared.

1. APPOINTMENT

  • To schedule an appointment call (406)-437-4095 and leave a message with your Name, mailing address and telephone number - cell phone preferred.


  • You will be contacted by an AARP Tax-Aide Volunteer to schedule your appointment date and time of appointment and pick-up time. Appointments will be Thursdays 9:00 pm to 2:00 pm and Saturdays 9:00 to 2:00 pm, starting on February 4, 2023 and ending on April 15, 2023. Your call will be returned to schedule a date and time for your appointment, 406.459.4851 or 406.594.3161.

  • After scheduling your appointment, you will receive a mailed packet to be filled out before your appointment. If you don’t receive a packet within a week of making an appointment, go to the Senior Center and ask for an AARP Tax-Aide packet. Read the instructions and complete all forms before your appointment.

  • This site will be utilizing a Same Day/Drop off format. Open Thursday and Saturday starting February 4. Appointments are required: 406.437.4095. We are located at Rocky Mountain Development (Helena Senior Center) 200 S. Cruse Ave, Helena, MT

2. FORMs REQUIRED & Helpful

2. APPOINTMENT DAY

  • Please arrive at the time of your appointment and check in with the AARP volunteer. You will be assigned a counselor’s table. This counselor will verify your identity using your Picture ID(and spouse) and social security cards for everyone on the return. Then an Intake/Interview will be performed to review your tax needs. A volunteer will check your documents and answer any questions you may have.

  • A. Bring Forms 13614-C and all Tax documents you receive.

  • B. Bring last year’s Federal and State tax Returns.

  • C. All forms will be reviewed and documents with signatures required to verify the documents you will be leaving with us.

  • D. Please leave the facility and return at your assigned pick-up time. You may be contacted if we have questions while doing your return - 406.459.4851 or 406.594.3161. Please answer calls from either of these numbers during the day.


3. TAX PREPARATION PROCESS:

  • A counselor will prepare your tax return. Then a quality review will be completed by a different counselor.


REVIEW & AUTHORIZATION

  • Upon your scheduled return pickup time, an Exit interview will be conducted with a counselor who will review your tax return with you and answer any questions you have about your return.

  • This counselor will provide you with Form 8879 (IRS e-file Signature Authorization). By signing Form 8879 you agree that the responsibility for the accuracy of the information on the return is yours. Both you and your spouse (if applicable), will be required to sign, giving AARP permission to E-file your return.

  • You will receive the printed copy of your Tax Return.

  • Be sure to keep your Tax Return, Intake Booklet and tax Documents inside the AARP provided envelope and store in a safe place for next year.
